Master Julian has been deeply immersed in the world of martial arts for an impressive span of over 45 years, dedicating his life to the pursuit of physical and mental discipline through rigorous training and practice. His journey began with Shotokan karate, a traditional Japanese martial art known for its powerful techniques and emphasis on kata, which he diligently studied for more than 18 years. This extensive training not only honed his skills in striking and self-defense but also instilled in him a profound respect for the philosophy and history of martial arts. Throughout this period, he was not content to limit his experience to just one style; instead, he eagerly sought out opportunities to expand his horizons. During many months, he traveled to various dojos and training camps, immersing himself in different martial arts styles and approaches. These experiences provided him with invaluable insights into diverse methodologies and approaches to combat, enriching his understanding and appreciation of martial arts as a whole.
One day, while accompanying his daughters to the local swimming club, fate intervened as he stumbled upon Master Phillip Hinchcliffe conducting a class in the school gym. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with the sounds of students practicing their techniques and the energy of martial arts in action. Captivated by the elegance and fluidity of the movements he observed, Master Julian felt a spark of inspiration that reignited his passion for martial arts. It was at this moment that he made the pivotal decision to embrace the traditional martial art of Han Guk Mu Sool®, a Korean martial art that emphasizes self-defense, mental discipline, and the development of both physical and spiritual strength. He began his journey in Han Guk Mu Sool® as a white belt, a novice eager to learn and grow. Through unwavering dedication, countless hours of practice, and a commitment to mastering the art, he steadily progressed through the ranks. His hard work and perseverance culminated in a significant achievement when he was promoted to the esteemed rank of 5th-degree master instructor in March 2024, a testament to his skill, dedication, and deep-rooted understanding of martial arts.
